Kitty Star of the Week for June 23 - 29, 2002.

This is our submitter's husband's kitten Opie, and here is Opie's story:

"We live out in the country and last November I was hosting a basket party. Some of my friends brought their husbands and kids with them so all of the men and boys stayed in my husband's shop and played with guy stuff while all of the girls were in the house. When the party was breaking up, we walked out to the shop to find this straggly, muddy, and slightly bloody kitten curled up on the lap of my husband, who by the way swears he hates cats. I asked him where he got it and he explained that Joel, my friend's 13-year old son heard a cat crying near the road. He went out to investigate and there was this little orange kitten in the ditch. They brought him to the shop, and I took him to the house.

"After a trip to the vet the next day, we determined that he had been abandoned. The vet cleaned him up and said that his nose was probably broken but had already started healing and that his injuries appeared to be minor.

"Since then, Opie has always been a man's cat. He has three favorite people Joel, the boy who rescued him from the ditch, my husband with whom he sleeps and follows around constantly, and my 8 year old niece Jessie who calls Opie her boyfriend.

"We truly love this cat! And currently, he is a whopping 14-pound kitten!"
