Kitty Stars of the Week for July 28 - Aug. 3, 2002.

This week we feature a new cat family! First their story from their person dad. He writes,

"Here are a couple of pictures of my new kittens, born on Mother's Day this year. I just got their mother about 5 weeks before they were born and she is my first cat. I've never considered myself a 'cat person' and was suprised how quickly I fell in love with Pepper, the mamma cat. Pepper is a beautiful "torbie" I think. I'm not an expert about these cat colors and combinations.

"On Mother's Day, Pepper went into labor around 3:30pm. She decided to have her kittens at my feet while I was using the computer. Not sure of exactly how to handle this, I logged into my favorite chat room on Yahoo where I knew there would be plenty of cat owners with advice. The next three hours became quite an adventure for me, Pepper, and the chatters. They gave me advice on what to do, and I gave them updates along the way. Kitten number two was a breach presentation. I didn't know what to do but my chat friends said just help Pepper get it out. I finally took a deep breath and when Pepper had a contraction I gently pulled on #2 and it popped out nicely. It was somewhat distressed but recovered quickly.... Kitty #4, the final arrival, also presented breach and was very large. The poor thing was very stuck, and I had some trouble getting it to come on out. Finally Pepper pushed and I pulled and #4 arrived, appearing lifeless. Pepper seemed to ignore this one and I was afraid it was dead... I decided to rub its tummy and chest just to see if it would respond. Soon it began to struggle to breathe. After it showed some signs of life, Pepper took over and cleaned it up. After about 45 mins, #4 was on its way to its first meal!! I was so delighted that this poor kitten that appeared so lifeless, looked like it would make it. Well to make a long story longer, they all made it!"

The kittens at 12 hours old

The two white ones were the two breach babies. They now have Siamese-type markings. The kitties person-dad continues,

"Scooter is already my little buddy....I'm not sure what sex it is yet but he/she is the most rambuncious of the litter and the most agressive. Seems this kitten is the first to try anything new. Scooter is already running, climbing and pouncing on things, mostly its siblings which is always fun to watch. Scooter enjoys biting my fingers and sleeping on my chest in the recliner."

Scooter

"Muffin is the most loving of all the kittens and enjoys sleeping on my chest and having his/her neck and head rubbed. Muffin loves to lick my hair too!!"
