Kitty Stars of the Week for May 14 - 20, 2000.

Sirus (on the left) and Neo are Abyssinians. When the picture was taken they were about 5 months old. They recently turned one year old. They are from different litters but they are only two days apart in age. Neo is a Red Aby and Sirus is a Ruddy.

Neo is almost twice the size of his brother now, but he is very much the gentle giant. He doesn't like to be held or cuddled much, unless it's around 4:00am. Then he politely, but firmly wakes mom or dad up (usually by lying on their shoulder and putting his face right up to theirs and purring very, very loudly) and demands his share of their attention. During those early morning hours he loves to be scratched, especially on his belly. He, oddly enough, loves to have his underarms scratched and will extend his front legs out as far as he can to give them better access. He also loves to have his toes played with. He shows his appreciation of their attention with copious amounts of drool which flows freely (much to mom's delight :-). His favorite activities are cricket hunting in the basement and playing in a dripping faucet in the bathtub. Despite his size Neo doesn't really seem to eat much, and mom and dad suspect it's because they can't find him any cricket-flavored cat food.

Sirus has remained generally small, and thankfully has kept his wonderfully big ears. He is undoubtedly the dominant cat in the house and mom and dad wonder how he stays so small with all the food he hoards. He was born into a household of many cats and evidently had to learn to be quick and vicious in order to get food. Mom and dad affectionately call him their little piranha. When holding cats treats out for them, Neo will take one very delicately from their hands while Sirus starts chomping and doesn't stop till he's reached their elbow. When he's not drawing blood, he can be found curled up in the nearest lap. Sirus is a lap cat and insists on lots of attention from anyone willing to provide it. If alone in a room he'll meow loudly, demanding someone come and give him the attention he deserves.

Sirus follows mom around like a puppy and sleeps with her at night. He prefers chicken-flavored food and turns up his nose when they try to sneak in the fish flavored variety. He lets mom and dad trim his claws and brush his teeth, but not while his brother is watching. He joins his brother for hunting crickets, but he's smart enough to know when there aren't any crickets downstairs and lots of laps to cuddle up in upstairs!
