Kitty Star of the Week for August 19 - 25, 2001.

This week meet Tigger, who would like to share his story.

I am a brown/gray/white Bengal/Ocicat/tabby mix that has green eyes and weighs 20 pounds.

I was a stray for two years. I hung around an apartment complex where a few old ladies fed me from time to time. Other times, I got my food from dumpsters, garbage cans, or killed some mice and birds to eat. Two long summers I sweltered, two long winters I nearly froze. The surprising thing was that I was never caught by Animal Control! Hee hee!

Anyway, on a bitterly cold day in January 2000, my luck as a cat changed for the better. A new lady had moved into Unit Six a couple of weeks before, and I had someone else to feed me. She also petted me a lot and never minded me on her windowsill. On this particular day, it was -15 degrees and the lady that would become my Meowmie (aka Mom) coaxed me into the warm apartment with warm milk and yummy leftovers. She called me Tigger and we have been best friends since. What was once a world of chasing birds, dodging dogs, nasty neighbors, and Animal Control was now a world of air conditioning in summer, heat in winter, sharing a bed with Mom, all the kitty delicacies I could eat, cat toys to play with and even a Cat Spa!

I was the only cat for eight months, until Mom rescued yet another cat--a kitten really--and I must admit I was not happy with THAT arrangement at first. My new "brot-fur" and I hissed at each other a lot, and I will admit that I whacked him around a little also--just to show him who was King Kitty around here. As time went on though, Noah became fun to be around; we wrestle, play, and groom each other. I really missed him the day Mom took him to the vet and he was gone all day. Boy, was I glad to see him when he came home! I don't know now what my life would be without my new buddy Noah!

TIGGER LIKES:

  • The lady in Unit 2 that feeds me the good kitty tuna.
  • Watching "ER" with Mom.
  • Being brushed!
  • Pounce cat treats.
  • Sleeping with Mom.
  • Wrestling and playing with Noah.
  • Going outside on sunny days.

TIGGER DOESN'T LIKE:

  • Going to the vet.
  • The cat carrier Mom puts me in when we go bye-byes.
  • The nasty lady in Unit 13 that is always chasing me away for no reason.
  • I'm not that crazy about kids.
  • Mom's noisy vacuum cleaner.
  • I despise baths. Mom wanting to give me one is just insulting. I can clean myself just fine! (And what I don't do, Noah finishes for me anyway)
  • Dogs. They're noisy, "go" anywhere their butt lands, and do other dumb stuff. We cats are much more dignified.
  • Rain and snow: I hate getting my paws wet.
