Kitty Star of the Week for June 14 - 20, 2009
This week our star is Seaweed:
And his person-mom writes,
"This is my newest addition to my cat family. His name is "SEAWEED."
He is a red tabby kitten who is only about 7 weeks old. He is so adorable and
a joy to have in my family. I got him from a friend whose cat had kittens and
he needed to find homes for them. I know how hard it is to find homes,
and the tragedies that occur when kitties have to be taken to the Humane
Society. My first cat, Seymore, who I still have, was from
Pasadena Humane Society in California, and he has been nothing but a joy to
me for over 11 years.
Seaweed is probably the youngest kitty I have ever taken in by myself. He is
so full of energy and has the cutest face. I simply love him to bits and
wanted to share him with you."

We've got a return visit from Earl Grey and Baby. Their mom says,
"I remodeled a doggy sweater for Earl. He likes it. I hemmed up
the bottom and tacked down the collar so it doesn't flip up, and sewed bells on
it. He is very vain about it and thinks and knows he is a hot kitty."
"Baby just loves her jewelry. This is her new necklace."
"But she hates red hats!! This is a bonnet and she is letting me
know and showing me the "dainty" way of taking it off!!"

Some cat facts...
- Many Siamese have crossed eyes. This happens because many Siamese have crossed optic nerve fibers. Kittens will show cross-eyed-ness at about 6 to 8 weeks.
- Adult cats sleep a total of about 16 hours a day.
- The Himalayn breed resulted from crossing Siamese and Persians.
- The European Burmese colors are brown, cream, lilac, red, blue, chocolate, and the Tortoiseshell versions of these colors.
- "Anurous" is a term used to describe a tailless cat.
- Although cats can develop a wide repetoire of meows, they will not be the same for all cats. A cat will develop a particular set of meows that it uses with its human.
- "Cobby" means short and sturdy on low legs.
- If a cat's tail is up with a relaxed tip, he/she is saying, "Happy to see you!"
